Clint Surplus TRUHORSEMANSHIP

Training Program

My training schedule runs from spring to fall and I limit to a select few horses that best fit my program. This allows me to be more flexible and spend more quality time, in a variety of environments, with the horses that are chosen. I am looking to develop light, responsive, confident, well-rounded horses that are willing to try anything the rider asks of them. I try to expose horses to a variety of situations, which may include: horse camping, gathering cattle, clinics, brandings or whatever options present themselves (that are suitable for the individual horse). I believe the best way to develop a horse is to give them a job to do. My goals are to keep challenging horses with new jobs that require their attention and effort, and that you and I will both take pride in your horse's success.

It is also my belief that it is most productive when I can work with the owner during the training process. It is not only what I can do with the horse that is important, but also what I can help the horse and rider achieve together. The level of participation will be based on the individual circumstances and depends on the comfort levels of both.

I collect applications until Nov. 1st and notify applicants of my decisions by Jan 15.

If you are interested in receiving an application, please contact us via the Contact page.

What Others are Saying about Clint:

"I have had the great pleasure of knowing Clint Surplus for many years. I have attended many of his clinics in Central Oregon, and also hosted several clinics for him at my former facility on the Oregon Coast. Clint is a wonderful teacher!! I cannot say that enough!! He is very professional, patient and kind, not only with the horses but also with his students. I also had the opportunity to send one of my colts to him for training. Clint is always honest and I was very happy with my colts training and care! I wouldn't hesitate to send him another.

He has something to offer everyone, from beginning students to advanced riders. I would still be riding with him today if it wasn't for my move to South Dakota. What I have learned from Clint has been most valuable to me in all aspects of my horsemanship, and has helped prepare me for all of the work that I am doing here on the ranch with my horses.
If you have the opportunity to ride with and learn from him I highly recommend it. You and your horse will only benefit from the time spent with Clint. "
